Choosing what the bot does
Report only, ask a moderator first, or act automatically, and which actions to allow.
When something is flagged
- Report only: the bot tells your moderators and does nothing else.
- Ask a moderator: the bot suggests an action and waits for someone to approve it.
- Act automatically: when the bot is highly confident, it acts straight away and tells your moderators. Less certain cases still wait for a person.
What it can do
- Delete the message.
- Warn the member who sent it, with a short message that mentions only them: A.M.A.R. says which categories it was flagged for, and M.A.C.R.O. explains in a sentence or two.
- Time the member out for 10 minutes, 1 hour, or 1 day.
Reading the conversation
With context turned on, the bot also uses earlier activity it's allowed to see, such as recent messages in the channel and earlier moderation results for the same member, so replies, jokes, and quotes aren't judged on their own. It usually reduces wrong flags, but old or incomplete history can also lead to a wrong call, so let your members know earlier activity may be considered.
Replies from M.A.C.R.O.
- Calm notes: when a conversation gets heated but nothing needs action yet, it posts a short note to cool things down, naming no one.
- Support: when someone seems to be in distress or danger, it replies with care and where to get help, and tells your moderators. A young person asking for help with unwanted sexual contact gets a helpline for young people and where to report it. Their message is never treated as breaking the rules.
- Reporters: when someone repeats abuse to report it, it thanks them and suggests telling a moderator directly.
Rules for each kind of problem
On paid plans, you can choose a different action for each kind of problem, such as only reporting scams but deleting hate, and, for A.M.A.R., how sure it must be before flagging each one. M.A.C.R.O. can also be told in a sentence or two what your server is about, so it understands what's normal there.
You can also enforce your server's own rules, for things that aren't harmful but your community doesn't allow. M.A.C.R.O. can find buying, selling, or trading; pushing sales or asking for money; advertising; invite links to other servers; mass or unwanted mentions; spam; swearing; mature or suggestive content; sharing personal information; unmarked spoilers; and political or religious debate. A.M.A.R. can find invite links and messages that mention many people at once. Each rule is off until you choose what happens, and you can combine them: to allow listings but not pushy sellers, leave buying and selling off and turn on pushing sales. Your own rules don't apply to members who can manage the server or its messages, or to the moderator roles you chose, so announcements with invites or @everyone aren't flagged. Checks for harmful content apply to everyone.
Changing your mind
You can change any of this from the server's page in your dashboard, or in Discord with /settings. Turning something on shows a short explanation first. Letting the bot act on its own in a new way also asks you to confirm it's you.
